Play Therapy Room & Therapy Process
Play Therapy Room
Play Therapist, and Psychotherapists who specialise in Play Therapy, help children and adolescents to express themselves through the medium of play. While the therapist can offers talk therapy, throughout a session, the therapy room has specially selected materials that are age appropriate for both child and adolescent, proving a wide variety of resources to elicit self expression. These include art materials, sand, miniatures, clay, drama, music, dance, puppets, and creative visualisation and storytelling materials.
What to expect during the Therapy Process
The initial intake session takes place between the parents and therapist. Parents play a vital role throughout the therapeutic process and consultation between the therapist and parents is encouraged.
During Intake Sessions, the needs your child or adolescent will be discussed. The therapist will explore how Psychotherapy/Play Therapy can help and a therapeutic plan will be developed. This consultation can take between 60 to 90 minutes.
Therapy sessions with children and adolescents are normally held weekly and last for 50 minutes. The length of time the child attends therapy depends on many factors. Initially, a minimum of 15 sessions are recommended. Some children/adolescents can respond well to short term intervention, whereas others need therapy over a longer period of time.
Parental review sessions take place regularly between the therapist and parents. This is an opportunity for parents discuss progress made, explore parenting strategies and agree future goals.
